Run the 2020 Uganda Marathon for Send a Cow
Whether you’re a seasoned runner looking for a new challenge or a complete beginner, the Uganda Marathon has something for you. With a 10k, half marathon or marathon, there is a route to suit every ability.
Emilia Edwards from Bath took on the 2019 Uganda Marathon for Send a Cow, alongside 11 members of staff from our Uganda office!
Funds raised by the team went towards supporting our Ugandan Orphans Project, which Emilia also visited as part of her Uganda Marathon experience.
Henry Blanchard, Uganda Marathon Race Director says: “For 2020, we're even more excited to be partnered with Send A Cow again. This year, a team of 11 Send A Cow runners - from both the UK and Uganda - took on the challenge, and together raised money to help support the charity's brilliant work in Uganda.
We can't wait for them to raise even more and change more lives next summer! We can't wait to welcome them to East Africa's biggest fundraising event."
The race is a chance to explore Uganda’s stunning scenery. You’ll be running alongside 5,000 others, with participants from across the globe. Each route - whether it’s the 10k, half marathon or marathon - will take you through the rolling hills and farms around Masaka, with views across to Lake Victoria.
There will be fuelling and water stations positioned throughout the route with medical support on hand to keep you hydrated under the warm Ugandan sun.
This race is all about soaking up Uganda - making the most of the amazing local support and the beautiful countryside - and for the keen runners out there it’s an opportunity to cross another of the world’s best marathons off your list. Red Bull recently named the event one of the "9 best marathons in the world", and it won "Best International Event" at the UK Running Awards.
Sunday:Tuesday: Sunday you will be met at the airport and travel to your home for the week in Masaka. Acclimatisation days will be spent visiting the equator, exploring the local village and taking part in culture, art and language lessons. Plus experiencing what day to day life is like in Uganda, and understanding the challenges and hopes of this vibrant country.
Wednesday: One project visit day will be spent visiting one of our Send a Cow projects in Uganda. You’ll meet some of the families we work with, whilst being hosted by our fantastic Send a Cow Uganda team.
Thursday: KidsRunWild is a sports day hosted by Uganda Marathon and you, and is dedicated to the schools, orphanages and communities in Masaka. In the afternoon we'll also be taking on a big plastic clear up project to clean up pollution near local schools.
Friday: The pool & pasta party is a chance to rest, feast and soak up the sun before the big day. You can also do a nature walk, learn how to turn plastic bottles into greenhouses, and learn the local dance moves.
Saturday: Race day is your time to shine with everyone out to cheer you all the way to that finish line, where a cold beer and BBQ will be waiting for you. The finish line will see you party with thousands of Ugandans in a free concert featuring some of the most famous artists in the country.
Sunday: Sadly it’s time to head home or if you fancy extending your trip to explore Uganda a little more there is a whole host of adventures to choose from, including the famous gorilla trekking and some of the most underrated safaris in East Africa.
In return for taking one of our places in the race, we ask that you commit to fundraising a minimum of £1,000 that will go towards one of our designated 3 year Send a Cow projects in Uganda. Raising £1,000 could fund a dairy cow. A dairy cow can provide over 3,000 litres of milk a year to a family, providing nutrition and a steady source of income from the sale of the surplus!
Once you have registered, Send a Cow’s experienced fundraising team and mentors will be on hand to provide all the support and advice you need to reach this. And one of the best parts of participants’ experience is seeing where your money will be going and meeting some of the children we have already helped.
Registration: £99 deposit (secures your place; payable to Uganda Marathon)
Sponsorship pledge: By taking a Send a Cow place in the Uganda Marathon 2020, we ask that you commit to raising £1,000 to support Send a Cow’s work with families living in rural Uganda
