Lydia Takka

Lydia Takka is an Agricultural Extension Worker in Kamuli, Uganda working on the Agriculture for Women and Girls with Disability Activity project (AWDA).

What is your role at Send a Cow?

I work with 551 farmers in the two sub counties of Kidera and Buyende. I conduct training in Integrated Sustainable Agriculture, hygiene and sanitation, nutrition, enterprise selection, post-harvest handling and Village Saving and Loans Associations.

What is the most exciting part of your job?

My favourite part of my job is seeing a smile on a beneficiary’s face, especially when working with women and girls with disabilities. I love talking to families and hearing stories of change which have come partly as a result of my efforts. I enjoy working with vulnerable communities and giving them hope.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

It is hard to create a positive attitude among people with disabilities who have never worked with organisations before. It is sometimes hard working with people who have disabilities but who don’t have people who help with their care in their household.

What are your hopes for Send a Cow over the next 30 years?

I hope we will be in a position to support and advise other organisations about community development.
